About the use of transformers, there are several kinds of fault problems often encountered in the operation of transformers, mainly including short-circuit damage fault, insulation damage fault, and overheating fault. Let's have a look.
Short circuit damage fault
All kinds of short-circuit faults of transformer, such as single phase to ground, two phases or two phases to ground and three phases, are most serious at the outlet.
During the operation of the transformer, daily patrol inspection should be strengthened, mainly to check whether the operation of the auxiliary equipment of the transformer is good and whether the temperature of the transformer is normal.
Using infrared imager to measure, we can better find some faults such as overheating and lack of oil in the transformer.

What are the three common types of transformer faults and how to deal with them

Insulation damage fault
The insulation damage fault of transformer accounts for about 70% - 80% of the total faults. Some are damaged by mechanical force or overheating, and some are not up to the requirements when leaving the factory, or the insulation is damaged, so the strength is reduced and cannot meet the requirements of bearing capacity.
The main reasons are as follows:
(1) The transformer is affected by water and moisture
It mainly includes water inflow due to loose sealing at the end of the casing, water leakage from the water cooler, dew accumulation in the explosion-proof cylinder, ponding in the oil conservator, etc.
The existence of moisture will cause the breakdown of transformer insulating oil and reduce its strength, which will cause insulation faults. The most common parts of insulation faults are windings, leads and screens. The development of creepage will lead to inter turn and inter layer short circuits.
(2) Foreign matters remaining in the transformer
The residual foreign matters and impurities of metal conductors in the transformer body cause insulation breakdown damage in the event of overvoltage or under normal working voltage due to partial discharge or insulation wear.
(3) Lightning strike
The low lightning resistance level of lightning protection at the medium and low voltage sides of the transformer and the weak insulation structure of the transformer cause the grounding short circuit fault of the transformer during lightning strike.
Overheat fault
It mainly includes overheating caused by abnormal current, such as overheating caused by circulation and eddy current, overheating caused by increased resistance of conductive circuit, overheating caused by blocked heat dissipation, etc.
The above are the three common faults of transformers, which I hope will be helpful to you. If you want to know more about electrical knowledge, pay attention to hengfengyou.
